We have placed our bi-monthly conference index on the World Wide Web. This
is a listing of over 200 conferences from October '95 to 1997 in the areas
of linguistics, applied linguistics, literacy, language teaching, and many
related fields.

We will be updating this every second month, so the next edition will appear
in December 1995.

Where conference organisers have provided Web sites, we provide hyperlinks
to them via the list.

This is a first try, so let me know how it works.

Important notice about Boston University Conference on Language Development
November 3 -5, 1995
Hotel space in Boston

For those who have not yet registered for hotel space for the 1995
conference, we would like to call your attention to a change from
previous years. (More detailed information is also available by
sending a blank email message to "info at louis-xiv.bu.edu").

The most convenient and popular hotel for attendees of the BU
Conference on Language Development has been the Howard Johnson's at
Kenmore Square (on Commonwealth Avenue). Unfortunately, this year, that
hotel is housing over 200 Boston University students who were unable
to be placed in on-campus housing. Therefore, the hotel has been
unable to reserve blocks of rooms for the conference. They did have
rooms at regular rates, but as of September 28, these too had been
taken. Howard Johnson's has moved the conference rate block of rooms
to their hotel on Boylston St. (the Fenway). For those of you who make
reservations at this branch, you will have several options for getting
to the George Sherman Union on Commonwealth. You can walk two long
blocks into Kenmore Square, and take the T or walk down Commonwealth
Ave., just as you would do if staying at the HoJo's in Kenmore Square
(we will have maps at the hotel front desk directing you to the
Conference). You can also take a bus into Kenmore Square and down
Commonwealth Ave. A taxi ride from the hotel is also an option, and
costs three dollars or so. To walk would take a maximum of
twenty-five minutes.

If you want more information about getting around Boston, either from
this new location or from other hotels, the subway and bus schedule
and route information office of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation
Authority can be reached at (617) 722-3200.

Other hotels listed in our "info" message also have easy access to
public transportation, and we have confirmed the availability of rooms
at several. If you encounter problems or have questions, please call
us at (617) 353-3085, or send us email at langconf at louis-xiv.bu.edu.
Please remember that as this Conference is run by volunteers, it may
take us a couple of days to respond -- but we will get back to you.

Thank you, and we apologize for the inconvenience.
