SPEECH COLLECTION CONSULTANT IN HONG KONG
 
Voice Processing Corporation, a leading speech recognition firm,
currently has an opportunity for a speech collection consultant in
Hong Kong. You will head our efforts to collect speech data leading to
the development of state-of-the-art automatic speech recognition
technology in Cantonese on site in Hong Kong.
 
You will be responsible for installing the data collection equipment
and recruiting callers through extensive marketing efforts. To fulfill
this position you should be familiar with computers, and preferably
have a technical background. In addition you must have good PR and
marketing skills in order to ensure good participation in this
project. This project will take 6 - 8 weeks and will commence in the
beginning of September. Initial training and support will be provided
by VPC.

CHAIR IN ASIAN STUDIES (University of Western Australia)
 
Applications are invited for a tenurable appointment as Professor of
Asian Studies. The School of Asian Studies is a department within the
Faculty of Arts.  It offers a range of courses which include a
specialist degree, the BA (Asian Studies) and majors in Asian Studies,
Indonesian, Japanese and Chinese in the BA. A Diploma in Modern
Languages is available as a graduate Diploma or it may be studied
concurrently with a range of other degrees in the University.
Combined degrees in Asian Studies/Law and Asian Studies/Environmental
Engineering have been introduced and further combinations are being
negotiated. The successful applicant will be expected to provide
strong academic leadership in both teaching and research and to act as
Head of Department for at least 3 years on appointment.
 
The successful applicant should:
 
*       hold a doctoral qualification or equivalent scholarly attainment;
*       be recognised as an eminent authority in a field of Asian Studies;
*       have an outstanding record of teaching and research;
*       possess demonstrable leadership and administrative skills.
 
Remuneration will be based on the professorial salary of AUD$81,780
per annum. Benefits include generous superannuation, attractive study
leave with travel assistance after three years, long service leave,
assistance toward removal expenses and fares to Perth for the
appointee and dependents.
