We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Subject: Q: Readability in French and Spanish

Heyla, to all on LINGUIST.

I am looking for information on readability analyses for French and
Spanish (and other languages, but these are my main focus). I would
ideally like to find something like Flesch-Kincaid, Gunning-Fogg, or
the Smog index. While I would like *any* info about this, I would be
particularly interested in knowing whether there are readability
analysis software (preferably freeware or shareware) for these
languages. If you know of anything, or have any suggestions as to
where to look, please let me know.

If there is enough interest and enough data generated, I will post a
summary to the list.

TIA

Subject: `That' in non-restrictive relatives

It is often claimed that `that' is not used to introduce
non-restrictive relative clauses; i.e. that they must be introduced by
a wh-word. And it is sometimes claimed that this first claim is not
100% correct.

I am looking for data. Can anyone give me good, attested examples of
non-restrictive relative clauses introduced by `that'. Examples can
be sent to me at mylne at lingua.cltr.uq.edu.au. I will do the normal
thing and summarise responses. Really good examples could be copied
immediately to Rodney Huddleston (rodney at lingua.cltr.uq.edu.au) who is
the original author of this request. He will be delighted.

Could anyone perhaps recommend any good introductory books on verb
aspect? Please e-mail. Thanks.
