We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

I have a graduate student who is investigating the nature of
political discourse in Newark's recent elections. She will be
analyzing the text of each of the contenders' political literature and
speeches published in the local newspaper. I would be very grateful
for any information on textbooks/articles on political discourse.
This is a fascinating topic, but new for me.

Thanks!

Subject: Q: Naming/Discriminatory Language

For our university's Community Day, I have been asked to do a workshop for
students and faculty on "naming" and "discriminatory language." I have been
asked to do this essentially because I am the linguist on campus. (Naming
and hate language are not in my area of specialization.) I would appreciate
any recommendations on sources for such a topic from fellow linguists. I
will post a summary. Thank you in advance.

On behalf of a LINGUIST-less colleague, I'm trying to locate a copy of
the following out-of-print book that someone would be willing to sell:

Friedrich, Paul. 1971. The Tarascan Suffixes of Locative Space:
Meaning and Morphotactics. (Voegelin, C.F., ed., Language Science
Monographs, vol. 9). Bloomington, Indiana University Publications.

Please reply directly to me. Thanks.
