Postgraduate Research Studentship 1996 at Queen's University, Belfast
 
Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD studentship available as
part of an EPSRC-funded research project. The project, entitled
`Development and Integration of Statistical Speech and Language
Models' is being undertaken by the Speech and Language research group
in the Computer Science department.  A good honours degree in Computer
Science or Maths is desirable, but applicants possessing (or currently
completing) a masters degree in Computer Science, or a good honours
degree in Engineering, Physics or other related subjects will be
considered. Applicants must be ordinarily resident in the UK for at
least 3 years prior to 1 October. Residency solely or mainly for
educational purposes does not count as ordinary residence. The
successful applicant must be available to start on 1st October, though
an earlier start is possible. Please send a curriculum vitae to
Professor F J Smith, Department of Computer Science, 21 Stranmillis
Road, Belfast BT9 5AF, Northern Ireland. The curriculum vitae must
include the names/addresses of two academic referees from the
institution where the applicant took his/her first degree. If a higher
degree or postgraduate course has been taken, one of the referees must
be from that institution. Those with recent relevant employment
experience should list, if possible, the name of their employer as a
third referee.  The closing date for receipt of curriculum vitaes is
1st August. The University is a charity established in 1845 to advance
education.

Are you involved with a linguistics working papers series?  We'd like
to include information about your series in Linguistics Working Papers
Abstracts (LWPA), a twice-a-year publication from Cascadilla Press.
 
The information we're looking for is contact and ordering information,
and abstracts of papers in recent volumes.  We already have over 20
series participating, and the first issue which came out last December
contained almost 200 abstracts.  The next issue is due out at the end
of the summer.
