We'd appreciate your limiting conference announcements to 150 lines,
so that we can post more than 1 per issue. Please consider omitting
information useful only to attendees, such as information on housing,
transportation, or rooms and times of sessions. Please do not use
abbreviations or acronyms for your conference unless you explain
them in your text. Many people outside your area of specialization
will not recognize them. Thank you for your cooperation.

                   De Dag
       Groningen (NL), 28 November 1996

On Thursday, November 28, a workshop on the syntax and semantics of
definite noun phrases will be held in Groningen, the Netherlands. This
workshop brings together young researchers in the area of logic and
language, who will shed a light on this topic from various angles. The
workshop concludes with a panel discussion led by Jeroen Groenendijk,
Sjaak de Mey, and Henk Verkuyl.

Nine, relatively short, presentations are given by various people on the
following topics:

   * Leonie Bosveld-de Smet (Groningen) Generic definites;
   * Kees van Deemter and Emiel Krahmer (Eindhoven)
     Presuppositions as Anaphors, and Vice Versa:
     Towards a Full Understanding of Partial Matches;
   * Paul Dekker (Amsterdam) Definiteness in Perspective;
   * Jaap van der Does (Amsterdam) (Non-)quantificational
     Treatments of (In)definites;
   * Herman Hendriks (Utrecht) Information Packaging
     and "Association with Focus";
   * Helen de Hoop (Groningen) Scrambled Definites;
   * Edith Kaan (Groningen) Definiteness in Parsing;
   * Manuela Pinto (Utrecht) Definite Subjects and Inversion;
   * Yoad Winter (Utrecht) Codistributivity of Plural Definites.
