Uppsala University hereby invites applications for the following
full-time post:
 
Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Linguistics
at the Department of Linguistics

The main responsibility of a postdoctoral fellow is to conduct
research within the framework of the stated field of study as well as
to be involved in undergraduate and post-graduate education. Teaching
obligations on the undergraduate level will be fulfilled within the
master's programme In Language Engineering. These obligations will not
exceed 10% of the post, corresponding to one course in one of the core
areas of computational linguistics, such as computational syntax,
semantics, or discourse.
 
The candidate for the post should hold a PhD. Preference will be given
to candidates who have received a PhD degree no more than five years
before the deadline for applications.
 
When ranking applicants for this post, account is taken of research,
educational, administrative and other competence needed to perform the
duties of this post. Particular attention is paid to research
competence.  The applicant's ability to provide information about
research and development is also considered.
 
Appointment to the post is for a two-year period. If the holder of the
post has successfully conducted research and has otherwise properly
exercised the functions of the post, then a two-year extension can be
expected.
 
In addition to the application itself, the applicant should send in a
certified curriculum vitae, a list of publications, and a brief
written account of his or her research and teaching activities. Copies
of the publications on the list should also be submitted. Furthermore,
the applicant should indicate the field of research he or she intends
to focus on within the framework of the post.

Subject: Position announcement/Communication Studies/Aoyama Gakuin University
 
 
The Department of English at Aoyama Gakuin University, Shibuya, Tokyo,
is now inviting applications for a full-time tenured position in
Communication Studies. There are currently 36 full-time members of the
English Department, specialising in Linguistics, and English and
American Literature.  Communication studies is a fourth, growing area
within the department. The appointment will be at the rank of
Professor/Associate Professor or Instructor, depending on
qualifications and experience. Ph.D is required, as is native speaker
proficiency in Japanese.
 
Ph.D specialization should be in one or more of the following areas;
-interpersonal communication
-intercultural communication
-journalism, media and mass communications
-semiotics
-rhetoric
 
Employment will be from April 1st, 1998. Qualified candidates should
