I would like to know the study and the references of the distinction
between English indefinite NP (_a_-N) and cardinal NPs (e.g. _one_-N).
Can anybody give me any information?  Thanks in advance.

Does anybody know when and how articles originated?

On a separate list, we're discussing the question, since teaching
articles to people whose languages do no use them is a monumental
task.  Some western European languages have articles, as does Arabic.
What other languages have them, and how did they get there?

Can anyone out there help,please?  The other day somebody here in
Kiel/Germany mentioned the existence of a CD- ROM that holds all
manner of linguistic information. The title, he said, was THE
LANCASTER CORPUS.  I'm terribly interested in this CD-ROM, however
can't find it in any of the catalogues available to me.  If anyone
could help by providing further information about this CD-ROM, or with
suggestions how I could get hold of it...I would highly appreciate
this.  Thank you.  By the way, there is also supposed to be an
American equivalent to the apparently British 'Lancaster Corpus'. Does
anybody know??
