The Swedish Society for Semiotics

Annual meeting and Conference

Department of Language and Culture
Linkoping University
Dec 5 - 6, 1997

As part of the development of a graduate studies and research program
at the Department of Language and Culture at Linkoping University, the
Department, in collaboration with LILIUM (Linkopings Lingvistik-,
Logik- och Informationscentrum), announces the following theme for the
1997 conference and annual meeting of the Swedish Society for
Semiotics.

Cultural Semiotics and Semiotics of Culture

Papers aimed either at theoretically defining the subject of cultural
semiotics or at giving empirical semiotic analyses of specific
cultural phenomena are invited. The focus of the investigations should
preferrably be cultural phenomena that are encountered in various
everyday situations in Sweden or other EU countries, although various
'high culture' phenomena will not necessarily be excluded. It would
also be good if there were some language aspect of the cultural
phenomena being analysed.

Abstracts not exceeding one page should be submitted to Richard
Hirsch at either of the following addresses.

Department of Language and Culture
Linkoping University
583 81 Linkoping, Sweden
or electronically to: richi at sol.liu.se

Deadline for abstracts: Sept. 1, 1997

As combined conference registration fee and sffs membership dues for
1997, participants are required to pay 200 SEK to postgiro number 417
47 16-3 not later than November 15, 1997.

A preliminary program for the conference together with information
about communication to and from Linkoping plus accomodation while in
Linkoping will be distributed at the end of September 1997.

Members presenting accepted papers will be reimbursed in part for
travel and accomodation expenses from funds provided by the Department
of Language and Culture.

Welcome to Linkoping!
