ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

Linguistics: tenure-track position available August 21, 1998.
Responsibilities: teaching undergraduate English linguistics courses
for English majors and Linguistics/ESL minors; graduate linguistics
courses for MATESOL/Linguistics and doctoral applied linguistics
students; carrying on a research program; directing graduate student
research.

Minimum qualifications: earned doctorate in linguistics by date of
appointment; record of effective teaching; record of publications or
presentations in linguistics.

Preferred qualifications: evidence of ability to relate linguistics to
areas of English Studies such as literature, composition, rhetoric,

Please post the following job announcement on The Linguist List:

California State University, Hayward, Department of Human Development,
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant
Professor level, beginning September 1, 1998. Applicants must hold the
Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in any of the disciplines that
study human beings (e.g. Linguistics). They must have expertise in
some area of adult development (e.g. age-related changes in language
and discourse). In addition, applicants must be able to operate in a
team-taught, interdisciplinary environment and to teach and advise a
multi-cultural undergraduate student population that includes adult
learners of all ages. Practical experience in teaching adults and in
collaborative learning, distance learning, and group dynamics is
highly desirable. The successful candidate will serve as the
Department's PACE (Program for Adult College Education) liaison.
