der
Universitdt Stuttgart (IMS-CL) ist zum 1.4.98 oder spdter die
Stelle einer wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiterin oder eines
wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiters BAT-IIa im Arbeitsbereich
Corpusbasierte Linguistik/Computational Lexicography zu besetzen,
zundchst f|r 20 Monate, mit einer mvglichen mittelfristigen
Verldngerung, je nach Projektlage.
Geeignete Bewerberinnen oder Bewerber haben ein Diplom in Informatik
oder Computerlinguistik (oder einen vergleichbaren Abschlu_),
Programmiererfahrung in Perl und C oder C++, sowie Erfahrung in der
Arbeit mit Mark-Up-Sprachen. Zusdtzliche Kenntnisse in
Java oder Javascript sind ein Vorteil, aber keine Bedingung f|r die
Einstellung.
Die Stelle ist f|r die Arbeit in einem Projekt zur Annotation von
Dialog-Corpora auf verschiedenen linguistischen Beschreibungsebenen
und zum Retrieval aus derart annotierten Corpora vorgesehen. Je nach
Interessenlage besteht Mvglichkeit zur Mitarbeit an weiteren
Projekten, primdr zum Aufbau deutscher NLP-Lexika; Mvglichkeit zur
Mitwirkung an der Lehre und ggf. zur Promotion.

Chair of English from January 1, 1999.
The Department of English seeks to play a pivotal role in leading English
Studies in Hong Kong and to support the University's determination to retain
its international standards and status, and its unique position within China
and Asia. We therefore seek an academic leader with strong academic
qualifications, and a substantial record of teaching and research
publications, to contribute actively to research and teaching at
undergraduate and postgraduate (M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D.) levels in the
context of the Department's work in English and American literatures, world
literature in English, sociolinguistics, critical linguistics and English
language and linguistics.
Competitive remuneration within the professorial range of HKD1M+ with 15%
terminal gratuity and an attractive benefits package (comprising housing,

allowances) will be offered to the successful candidate.

Pre-doc position Available
The Language and Cognition Group (formerly the Cognitive Anthropology
Research Group) at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics
has a position available for a young researcher who is studying for
a Ph.D. The holder of the position is expected to complete their
thesis during their stay with the Group.
The Group is concerned with the relation between language and cognition,
especially as evidenced by cross-linguistic studies. The
position provides full support (including fieldwork) for two years,
renewable for one further year. Residence is in Nijmegen, the Netherlands,
except during fieldwork, but theses may be examined by Universities
elsewhere. (MPI itself does not award degrees, but rather this position
will fund research towards a Ph.D. at a recognized university.)
Preconditions are:
(a) good linguistic training, especially in descriptive linguistics
or linguistic anthropology;
(b) some experience of fieldwork in non-Western languages and communities;
(c) willingness to undertake further linguistic and ethnographic fieldwork
in a non-Western community for the PhD, and to work in collaborative
projects (currently focussed on 'Spatial language and cognition',
'Speech and Gesture', and 'Argument structure (verbal semantics)';
(d) completion of prerequisites for entry into a PhD program as
determined by the University (and country) where the applicant intends
to submit.
