The Institute for Natural Language Processing (IMS), University of
Stuttgart, Germany, is looking for a talented linguist to join our
Machine Translation group.

The offered position is part of the speech-to-speech translation
project VERBMOBIL funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education,
Science, Research and Technology (BMBF).

The candidate who will be responsible for the encoding and maintenance
of the English-German bi-directional transfer database should meet a
significant subset of the following requirements:

- University degree in linguistics or computational linguistics
- Practical experience in machine translation with emphasis on
	transfer
- Research experience in English-German contrastive linguistics
- Solid background in semantics and computational linguistics
- Native or near-native competence of English and German

The position is at the rank of "Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter" (M.A.
or equivalent required). The salary is on the German pay scale of BAT
IIa (minimum of 60 000 DM per year). The initial contract for this
position is for three years, with the possibility of renewal for two
additional years. The duration of the contract and the possibility of
renewal are independent of the Verbmobil project, because MT is one of
the longterm research aims at IMS.

 PROFESSOR IN TESL


 The Departement des Arts et Lettres at the University of Quebec at
Chicoutimi invites applications for a tenure-track position in
Teaching English as a Second Language in the B.A. in Second-Language
Teaching.

Description: The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching
undergraduate courses in TESL methodology, English language, and
applied linguistics.  Duties will also include overseeing
student-teaching practica and carrying out scolarly research in
language teaching.

Requirements: Ph.D. in TESL, TEFL or applied linguistics.  Proven
excellence in teaching.  Experience using multi-media technology in
language teaching and / or familiarity with the school system highly
desirable.

 Working knowledge of French.

 In accordance with Canadian immigration regulations, priority will be
given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.

Remuneration: The work conditions are difined by the present
collective agreement.  Remuneration depends on work experience and
education.
