Spanish: Second Language Acquisition with specialization in
sociolinguistics (some combination of: language contact, bilingualism,
dialectology, including U.S., etc). Subspecialty in phonology
preferred.  Rank open. Tenure track. Fall 1999. Ph.D., near native
proficiency in Spanish and English, and commitment to research
required. Must be willing to teach graduate seminars, direct graduate

The Linguistics Program at the University of Utah invites applications for
4-6 non-tenure track clinical assistant professors beginning July 1, 1999.
Ph.D. in linguistics, applied linguistics or a closely allied field
required.  (ABD considered.)  Duties include teaching eight courses per
year, consisting of four sections each of two M.A. level courses per year:
Graduate Survey of Linguistics and Pedogogical Structure of English.  These
courses form part of a large-scale TESL certification program for public
school teachers.  (Total number of positions available subject to
enrollment in the courses.)  Demonstrated ability to teach linguistics
required; background in FL or ESL teaching preferred.  Salary competitive;
full benefits.  Two-year contract; second-year renewal subject to
performance review at the end of the first year.  Send a cover letter, CV
