Subject:  Temporary French Language Consultant


Wanted -- French Language Consultant

A part-time French language consultant is needed to help with a French speech
recognition project, for a period of one to two months.  Requirements are as
follows:

1. Native speaker of French.

2. Good general linguistic knowlege of the French language and dialects; in
particular, good understanding of issues in French phonetics and phonology, and
good ears for dialectal variations in pronunciation.

3. Knowledge of computer speech processing is helpful but not required.

Subject:  Syntax: Visiting Prof at U of Massachusetts/Amherst, Spring 00

Because of the unavailability of the following notice on the Linguist
List for several weeks last month, we are extending the deadline for
applications to July 7, 1999.

The Department of Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts/Amherst
anticipates a one-semester sabbatical replacement position for a
visiting assistant professor in the area of syntax for Spring 2000,
contingent on funding.  Duties will include teaching at least one
introductory undergraduate course in linguistics.

A letter of application, curriculum vitae, sample papers or
publications, three letters of recommendation, and teaching evaluations
if possible, should be sent to:
