Cornell University:  The Department of Linguistics will be seeking to fill
a tenure-track position for a historical linguist specializing in
Indo-European to begin July 1, 2000.  In the interim, the department has
been authorized to appoint a visitor (rank open) to teach courses in
historical and Indo-European linguistics either for the entire academic
year 1999-2000 or for the spring semester only. For further information,

Research Scientists
Imaginative Research Scientists needed to work as part of a team of
scientists on challenging problems in speech recognition. Some areas of
particular interest include research on telephony, natural language
processing, acoustic modelling, and performance testing as well as research
on commercial speech products. Background in speech recognition desirable
but not essential. Candidates must have a strong academic/research
background (Ph.D. in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics,
physics, or other quantitative field), be comfortable programming in C (and,
ideally, C++) and experienced with scripting languages (such as Perl) in a
Unix and/or Windows environment. The candidates should enjoy discussing and
debating complex technical issues.
