Some time in the late 1960s the Nuffield Foundation Child Language Survey
published two books, called respectively _The Written Language of
{9 and 10}{11 and 12} Year Old Children_. Several years ago I lent a
linguist working elsewhere in Britain my copy of the 9/10-year-old one.
It hasn't been returned, and like an idiot I have forgotten who I lent
it to. (If you are reading this, could you please let me have it back
now -- suddenly I really need it?) Alternatively, if anyone else out there
has a copy of the same item, would they be prepared to lend it to me? --
I'd guarantee to return it within a fortnight, after photocopying some
extracts.

These are tall, ring-bound booklets, with white covers lettered in lime
green, full of typewritten transcriptions of children's essays, reproduced
via the cyclostyle technology of that period. Being "informal" publications
they have not made it into standard bibliographical registers, and I doubt
whether I could find a copy via the inter-library loan system. If my
own copy comes back, my only feeling towards the borrower will be gratitude.

Dear linguists,

Does anyone know of any work on Japanese vowel devoicing
published in the last couple of years.
I've already got Imaizumi et al. (1995) in JASA,
the PhD dissertations of Kondo (1997) and Tsuchida (1997),
and Kitahara (1998) in vol. 8 of Japanese/Korean Linguistics.
I would be grateful if you could let me know of any other work.

Thanks
    Takeshi Ishihara
