Subject:  Chomsky and statistics

For a forthcoming paper on statistics in linguistics,
I would appreciate help in finding a reference.
Chomsky once dismissed the relevance of statistics in
linguistics, saying something to the effect that it
would be of little interest to find that speakers in
New York say "bagel" more often than speakers
elsewhere.  The point was that grammaticality
judgements do not depend on pragmatic frequency.  The
paper would have been pre-1985.  Thank you.
