          ENVISIONING MACHINE TRANSLATION
            IN THE INFORMATION FUTURE


With its theme Envisioning MT in the Information Future, the
Association for Machine Translation in the Americas (AMTA) devotes its
fourth conference AMTA2000 in the biennial series to the future. The
focus will be on the articulation of future visions of MT: in the '00
decade, the 21st century, and even in the third millennium.

TUTORIAL AND WORKSHOP SUBMISSIONS.

Proposals for tutorials and workshops are now being solicited on
topics of direct interest and impact for MT researchers, developers,
vendors or users of MT technologies.  Workshops will be held on
Tuesday October 10th.  Approx. 7 hours may be allocated per workshop.
Tutorials will be held on Wednesday October 11th.  Approx. 3 hours
will be allocated per tutorial. Please state the topic(s) to be
addressed, the rationale for addressing it and the structure of the
activities.  Submissions should be in English and not longer than 4
pages.

Please submit proposals as soon as possible to Laurie Gerber at
<lgerber at systransoft.com> Proposals must be submitted on or before
Friday, April 14, 2000.

Call for papers

2000 International Workshop on Generative Grammar
July 6 - 7, 2000, Seoul, Korea

The Korean Generative Grammar Circle (KGGC) is pleased to announce
that the 2000 International Workshop on Generative Grammar will be
held at Hansung University, Seoul, Korea, on July 6-7, 2000. We invite
abstracts for talks on any aspect of generative linguistics. Talks
will be 20 minutes long with 10 minutes for discussion.

Keynote Speakers:      Dr. Norbert Hornstein (University of Maryland)
                       Dr. Akira Watanabe (University of Tokyo)

Abstracts should not exceed two single-spaced pages including data and
references.  The abstract itself should not bear the author's name but
only the title of the paper. The following information should
accompany the abstract on a separate sheet of paper: (1) paper title,
(2) name(s) of author(s), (3) affiliation(s) of author(s), (4) email
address to which notification of acceptance or rejection should be
sent, (5) primary author's office and home phone numbers.

An author may submit at most one single and one joint abstract. Please send
