Faculty Positions in the School of Education
University of Colorado at Denver

The School of Education at the University of Colorado at Denver announces
up to three faculty positions. Two positions will be filled at the
assistant professor rank while the third may be filled at an open rank for
an individual with exceptional potential to provide leadership for
continuing innovation in the programs described below. Depending upon the
qualifications of applicants, these positions may be filled as tenure or
non-tenure track.

The School of Education at the University of Colorado at Denver is NCATE
accredited, affiliated with the National Network for Educational Renewal,
and emphasizes the development and operation of programs in partnership
with urban schools and school districts. We are building a faculty
committed to full partnerships with diverse urban and metropolitan schools
and communities. We seek faculty with any of several academic
specializations whose skills, experiences, and commitments will support
program innovation in the context of these partnerships and strengthen our
relationships with diverse urban communities.

Two broad partnership structures provide the framework for our projected
program growth and development. In the Initial Teacher Education program,
14 urban partner schools work collaboratively with professors to prepare a
yearly cohort of approximately 140 new teachers to teach at the elementary
or secondary level and to assume leadership roles in school renewal. The
program uses a collaborative school-university decision-making process to
renew continuously the teacher education program and to implement exemplary
education for P-12 students, best practices in professional development,
and research and inquiry that support the teachers' and schools'
educational goals. Faculty are assigned either to the Initial Teacher
Education program or Jointly to this and a program or division that
reflects individual specialization.

The School's partnership to support ongoing professional development is a
formally structured Board of Collaborative Educational Services (BOCES)
that links the university with 20 Denver metro area school districts. The
goal of the BOCES is to develop innovative solutions to professional
development and student learning problems through cross-institution
resource sharing and shared decision-making about program development,
delivery, and evaluation. University faculty members are assigned to
appropriate academic units in the School of Education and lead "joint
faculties" of university, district, and community experts who are
responsible for these programs.

Successful applicants will participate substantively in one or both of
these partnerships, contribute to academic programs in their discipline
area, and assume a role in the school-wide Ph.D. program in Educational
Leadership and Innovation.
