Dear colleagues,

I would like to invite you to participate in Lisbon on the tutorials
sessions on "Information Exploitation and Learning from Text". This
event will occur in September 15-16, at Institututo Superior Técnico.

 Complete information can be found at:
http://pc-gpl.di.fct.unl.pt/~glint/tutorials/tutorials.html

It follows a series of workshops and symposia on Machine Learning
applied to Natural languages that will all take place at the same
premises:

5th International Colloquium on Grammatical Inference (ICGI-2000),
September 11-13, 2000 ( http://vinci.inesc.pt/icgi-2000/ )

2nd Learning Language In Logic Workshop (LLL 2000), September 13-14,
2000

 4th Meeting of the Interest Group on Computational Natural
Language Learning (CoNLL-2000), September 14, 2000

Fees for those attending any of the previous workshops, simposium or
meeting are reduced. As well as the fees for students. Members of APPIA
pay also reduced fees.

The organization of the tutorial series on "Information Extraction and
Learning from Text" was solicited by the Board of APPIA (the Portuguese
Association for Artificial Intelligence) and its President, Prof. Pavel
Brazdil.

The tutorials programme can be found at the web page mentioned above as
well as other important information

We will count with the participation of Gregory Grefenstette (Automatic
Thesaurus Construction); Nuno Marques (Neural nets based POS-tagging and
unsupervised learning of verbal frame subcategorization); Joaquim Ferreira
da Silva & Gael Dias (Statistical extraction of contiguous and
non-contiguous patterns of words, characters and POS-tags from text);
Raymond Mooney (Inductive Logic Programming for Natural Language);
Walter Daelemans (Memory-Based Language Processing: Applications in
Language Engineering); Dunja Mladenic (Document Categorization by
Modeling Human Expert); António Ribeiro (Statistical alignment of parallel
text and extraction of translation equivalents); Vitor Rocio and João Balsa
(Symbolic adaptive parsing: declarative fault finding, multi-parsers
correction proposals, results validation and learning)
