Would someone be so kind as to confirm whether the common Japanese word for
thankyou, "arigato", comes from the Portuguese "obligado"? According to the
Kojien dictionary, "arigato" is a euphonic change from "arigataku", which
sounds much less similar to the Portuguese word.

Thanks in advance,

Jonathan Lewis

I am searching for a standardized test of receptive single word vocabulary
that includes phonemic as well as semantic foils. Any information would be
appreciated.
