St. Cloud State University seeks applications for an
Assistant/Associate Professor of TESL/Applied Linguistics,
Tenure-track, to begin Fall 2001.

Salary: $49,000 maximum.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will teach English TESL methods and
linguistics courses for K-12 license and graduate students and courses
in either freshman composition or college-level ESL with a standard
teaching load of 12 credits per semester.  The assignment will include
reassigned time for College ESL program and graduate teaching
assistant supervision and university ESL placement testing.

Responsibilities also include advising and participation in
departmental committees. The collective bargaining agreement requires
that SCSU faculty demonstrate effective teaching; engage in research;
show evidence of continued preparation and study; contribute to
student growth through advising and other means; and provide service
to the university, especially through committee assignments, and the
community.

Qualifications and experience:

Required:
- Ph.D., or its equivalent, in TESL, applied linguistics, or a closely
related field;
- Administrative experience in ESL programs;
- Demonstrated communication and coordination skills;
- Evidence of teaching excellence;
- Demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally
diverse backgrounds.

Primary academic area of research in TESL/applied linguistics is open.

Preferred:
- Publications and other professional activities;
- Teaching experience in an MA TESL program, in K-12 ESL, and/or in
another country and/or culture;
- Academic preparation in CALL and in qualitative and quantitative
methods of research in TESL and applied linguistics.
