The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

Required Language(s):Japanese (Code = JPN)

Description:

Rhetorical Systems is expanding the range of languages offered in its
high-quality Voice text-to-speech system to include Japanese. We are
looking for two Japanese-speaking researchers to join our dedicated
team of scientists and developers. One of the positions is in the area
of text analysis and natural-language processing, and the other is in
the area of speech processing and unit selection.

Rhetorical Systems is a leading provider of text-to-speech (TTS)
solutions. We build high-quality voices, which in many applications
are indistinguishable from the real voices on which they are modelled.
We are headquartered in Edinburgh, with offices in London, New York,
Boston, San Francisco and Texas. Our research and development team,
based in Edinburgh, is the largest and most experienced text-to-speech
team in the world. In addition we have close links with the University
of Edinburgh, which has distinguished departments for Linguistics,
Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence, and a long history of
speech research.

We are looking for experienced and motivated individuals with computer
programming skills that include C++. Previous experience in TTS is
essential. For the speech position, recent experience in unit
selection is desirable.

The ability to work in an English-speaking environment is required. If
you are interested in either of the positions, send covering letter
