Description:

Applications are invited for the 3-year position of 'adjunct'
(equivalent to Junior Lecturer/Assistant Professor) in English
Linguistics, to be filled on 1 August 2003 or as soon as possible
thereafter.  The successful applicant will be a specialist in
diachronic linguistics, but preference may be given to those with an
additional research interest in social and/or geographical variation
in present-day English. It is expected that the appointee will have
the opportunity to compete for at permanent position in the same area
at the end of three years. The Department of English is very
international in its composition and outlook, and all teaching takes
place in English.

Required qualifications:
 - a PhD degree or its equivalent, preferably in diachronic
   linguistics;
 - native or near-native command of English.

The successful applicant will
 - take responsibility for the undergraduate course in Language
   History;
 - contribute to at least one of the other core courses covered by the
   Department (e.g. Phonetics and Phonology, Syntax and Morphology,
   Semantics and Pragmatics, British History and Society, or Literatures
   in English);
 - offer small-group upper-level courses in areas related to his or her
   research;
 - pursue an active research programme.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all
aspects of the Department's activities, and he/she is required to be
present at the Department on a daily basis. If the candidate does not
speak Danish, he/she must learn enough Danish to participate fully in
the work of the Department within two years.
