FUND DRIVE 2003

To give you an incentive to donate, many of our Supporting Publishers
have generously donated some amazing linguistic prizes. As a donor you
are automatically entered into this prize draw. To find out what's on
offer and the rules etc., visit:

http://linguistlist.org/prizedraw.html

We still have a long way to go, however, to reach our target of
$50,000. Please make a donation at:

The LINGUIST List depends on the generous contributions from
subscribers like you; we would not be able to operate without your
help.

The moderators, staff, and student editors at LINGUIST would like to
take this opportunity to thank you for your continuous support.

The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

Description:

Overture (www.overture.com) is looking for one Swedish and one
Norwegian lexicographer or linguist to help us with a 3-4 week
project. We are developing rules and datasets for our Scandinavian
search engine. The rules and datasets include components such as
stopwords, prefix stripping rules, and mapping plurals and
misspellings to a singular, correctly spelled form.

The hourly rate is $25-35, depending on experience, and the project
will involve approximately 120 hours of work in total.

The ideal candidate will:

- be a native speaker familiar with the colloquialisms and popular
  culture of Sweden/Norway
- have past experience in developing similar rules and datasets; or
extensive past experience in lexicography, translation or corpus
  linguistics
- be comfortable handling large datasets (searching, sorting,
  zipping...)
