Research Associate
Grade:  RASS		
Salary range: 18,265-27,339 pa
Limit of Tenure:  Up to 36 months

Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work on a
research project on rhetorical analysis, citation analysis and
summarisation. The project will study the interaction of natural
language understanding techniques and discourse effects empirically on
a large text corpus of scientific texts. In particular, machine
learning techniques will be used to recognize the orientation of a
citation context as contrastive (''negative'' or ''supportive''). The
project will also investigate robust methods for porting recognition
of cue phrases (''In this paper, we present...'') to new domains such
as bio-informatics.

Qualifications and experience required (as appropriate to the grade
and duties): Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent experience)
in computational linguistics, computer science or a related
discipline, good programming skills (Java, C++ or perl), and knowledge
of statistical NLP techniques.  Knowledge of internet technologies
would be an advantage.
