The very competent audio technician at the Royal Dutch Academy's
Meertens Institute for Research and Documentation of Dutch Language
and Culture, Kees Grijpink, warned me after reading above's summary
postage.
He wrote (my translation): 'This idea keeps reappearing but should
immediately be stopped. DDS tapes have a different backing than
regular DAT tapes have. Heads and machinery of a DAT recorder will
surely get damaged. Don't do it.'
