Dear Subscribers,

Since 1993, when the LINGUIST assistantships were inaugurated,
LINGUIST subscribers have financed the educations of 45 outstanding
graduate students, including this year's crew. Those of you who have
contributed to LINGUIST over the past 10 years can feel proud that you
have helped these students pursue their educational and career goals.
Please help us support the outstanding students who are now providing
you with the services that you have come to expect from LINGUIST. If
you have not yet donated to the Linguist Fund Drive, please do so
now--all of your donations go directly to student support.

Yesterday your donations funded another one of our crew members--Sarah
Murray. As each on of our crew members is funded, we will post their

Dear LINGUIST Subscribers,

I have been working with LINGUIST for almost two years now, doing all
of the things that LINGUIST research assistants do. This means
programming web pages, browser checking these and other pages, posting
issues to The List, helping out with the annual LINGUIST fund drives,
corresponding with some of our subscribers, and helping out with the
numerous projects that LINGUIST is involved in, including E-MELD and
the School of Best Practice. For a year and a half now I have been
working as the Jobs and Support editor. In addition, this past fall,
upon the departure of our long-time Editor-In-Chief Karen Milligan, I
was promoted to the position of Managing Editor. This position has
brought me away from doing some things that I used to do. However, it
has given me the opportunity to post discussions and to correspond
with many more of our subscribers. Chances are if you have written in
to LINGUIST in the past six months, you have received an answer from
me!

I will be graduating from Wayne State University this summer with my
master's degree, and going on to graduate school. This year both
Tomoko Okuno, one of the other student editors at LINGUIST, and I will
be going on to graduate school. I think that our stories are perfect
exemplifications of what your donations, the donations of our
subscribers and friends, do for us here at LINGUIST. Donations from
the past couple of fund drives have helped to finance my Master's
degree. I would like to thank you all of you who have donated in the
past couple of years!

So far we have raised $29,612.58, which is indeed a very impressive
sum. However, this is just shy of HALF of our target! Thank you to
those of you who have donated already! To those of you who have not
yet donated, please consider doing so--your donations will go directly
to helping fund one of our graduate students for next year.
