Description:

The University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a Professor of German
by 1 September 2004 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department
of German enjoys an outstanding reputation and has maintained a strong
intake of highly qualified and well-motivated applicants for its
undergraduate courses. In seeking to make an appointment to this Chair
we are reaffirming our commitment to international excellence in
modern languages.

You will have established an international reputation in research and
publication, and will show the potential to maintain and further
enhance this reputation. You will make a key contribution to the
Department of German's standing as a centre of excellence in teaching
and research. As the University is anxious to attract the very best

scholarship.

Appointment to this Chair offers a rare opportunity for a person with

Department, and to play a key role in future developments within the
School of Modern Languages, the Faculty of Arts and the University.
