Subject: Looking for Mandan Language Linguists

I am looking for linguists interested in translating Mandan, a Siouan
language. You may recall that Lewis and Clark stayed near the Mandan
in their journey across the northwest. Contrary to popular belief,
Mandan people are not extinct; the last male Mandan speaker is alive
and well and teaching K-8 students in a small reservation community in
western North Dakota. For several years now, I have been working on a
Mandan Language and Oral Traditions Preservation Project, in which we
are translating cultural stories back into Mandan. We are in need of
a linguist who can assist us in translating these stories back into
written text.
