The HCRC, in the School of Informatics, University of Edinburgh, is
seeking a researcher, at postdoctoral level or with equivalent
research experience, to work on aspects of Natural Language Generation
(NLG).

NLG research at the HCRC currently focuses on:

  * generating intelligent feedback in tutorial dialogues
  * reaction to the student's motivational state in tutorial dialogues
  * generation, information structure, and intonation in dialogue
    systems.

This position involves adaptive linguistic realization of tutorial
dialogue moves, in written English, based on student and situational
models, in domains such as calculus and basic electricity and
electronics. You will have expertise in Natural Language Generation
and dialogue systems. An interest in machine learning is also
desirable.

Good programming skills in Java, XSLT, LISP and/or Prolog, and
experience with XML are highly desirable.

The appointment has an initial fixed duration of up to 30 months, with
opportunities for continuation, and is expected to start immediately.
