Description:

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. The Division of Humanities
provides a wide range of general education in undergraduate and advanced
training in MA, MPhil and PhD degree programs in literature, linguistics,
history and anthropology, and philosophy and religion.  The essential medium of
instruction is English.

The Division, pending budgetary approval, seeks to appoint one Research
Assistant Professor in the field of Chinese Linguistics (with specialization in
Cantonese Linguistics). The appointment, beginning in Fall 2005, will be for 2
years, with the possibility of renewal.  The appointee will be required to teach
three courses per year, including undergraduate and postgraduate level courses,
and supervise postgraduate students.  No administrative duties are required.
Candidates must be holders of a doctoral degree.  Preference will be given to
those who have teaching experience and have demonstrated excellent research record.

Salary, being highly competitive, will be commensurate with experience.  Fringe
benefits include medical/dental benefits, and annual leave.  A gratuity will be
payable upon successful completion of contract.  Interested applicants should
