We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

To post to LINGUIST, use our convenient web form at

Subject: American English vocabulary in British English

I am looking for a source of information that would provide me with a list of
American vocabulary that has been borrowed into the British English lexicon. A
list that gives dates for when the words first became present in British English
would be particularly useful.

The Program in Linguistics at University of Florida was asked to
offer some measure of how to assess our majors upon completing
linguistics as an undergraduate.

We decided to do a little research and find out whether or not there are such
measures in other programs. Specifically, are there any standardized assessment
instrument for undergraduate linguistics majors in your department/program?
