Postgraduate Programme "European Studies: Languages and Cultures in
Contact" at the University of Zadar, Croatia

Call for Applications

1. Goals and Principles of the Programme
The postgraduate programme "European Studies: Languages and Cultures
in Contact" is conducted by the University of Zadar, in cooperation
with other Croatian academic institutions and the universities of
Antwerp, St. Andrews, Mannheim, Vienna and Udine, forming part of the
consortium. It is supported with the Tempus grant awarded by the
European Commission (CD-JEP-16026-2001). The postgraduate programme is
interdisciplinary and its goal is to provide highly qualified
Humanities or Social Science graduates, as well as experienced
practitioners with suitable academic qualifications, with a
comprehensive introduction to various issues relating to European
studies. The aim of the programme is to create a sense of European
identity based on insights into the common European cultural
heritage. The programme aims to impart knowledge of methodologies and
research findings in the field of European studies and prepare
students for work in institutions dealing with European integration,
the media, as well as various cultural and academic institutions.

2. Profile
The ES programme leads to an MA in one year (60 credits)  or to a PhD in
three years (180 credits). The programme comprises three modules:

1.  Languages in Contact
2.  Cultures in Contact
3.  European Integration

Students participate in courses from all three modules. After the thesis
has been accepted, the final step is a defence of the dissertation.

3.Admission Requirements
The programme is designed for students who wish to work in the field of
European studies. Applicants must have completed an advanced academic degree
(a BA or an MA course) with very good results. Instruction and research will
be carried in Croatian and/or English.
