The Applied Linguistics Division of the Modern Language Association invites
proposals for papers on the topics below. Papers are normally 20 minutes long,
followed by up to 10 minutes of questions and discussion.

1. Computer-Mediated Foreign Language Study

We invite reports of original research on the role of computer-mediated
discourse (chats, email, etc.) in FL learning within and across institutions.
Diverse theoretical perspectives are encouraged. Send 1-page abstracts by 15
March 2005 to Judith Liskin-Gasparro (judith-liskin-gasparro at uiowa.edu).

2. Researching Advanced Foreign Language Learning

We invite original research reports on research conducted on FL learners at high
levels of proficiency. We encourage reports on all languages and from diverse
theoretical perspectives. Send 1-page abstracts by 15 March 2005 to Judith
Liskin-Gasparro (judith-liskin-gasparro at uiowa.edu).

3. Year of Languages 2005: Research on Heritage Language Learners

We invite reports of original research conducted on heritage language learners.
We encourage reports on all languages and from diverse theoretical perspectives.

designed for undergraduates (and graduates if space allows) to come together to
share research and foster continued appreciation of the linguistic sciences
among undergraduates.

The Western Washington University Linguistics Club and WWU Linguistics Program
are pleased to announce the first annual Western Washington University
Undergraduate Conference in Linguistics, to be held at the Humanities Building
on campus May 7, 2005, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Undergraduates (and graduates
if space allows) in linguistics are invited to present their research in any
topic in linguistics. Each presenter will have up to 15 minutes (with 5 minutes
for questions) and the following are available during the presentation:  PC
(with MS Office, PowerPoint, etc., and A and D drives), Document Camera,
overhead projector, and access to the Internet. There are hookups for connecting
your own laptops (PC and Mac) if necessary.

The deadline for submission of abstracts is Tuesday, March 15th, 2005.
Notifications of acceptance will be e-mailed by April 1. Single-page anonymous
abstracts (without your name written anywhere inside the document) should be
typed on a single page (500 words or less), with an optional additional page for
graphs and/or references, in .doc (MS Word) or .pdf (Adobe Acrobat) format with
the following title: "firstname_lastname_WWUUCL" (example: john_smith_WWUUCL).

Electronic submissions are required; if this is not possible, please contact
Jason Rudd at linguisticsclubwwu at hotmail.com to arrange a possible alternative.

All documents should be submitted to WWU Linguistics Club, Attn: WWUUCL, at
linguisticsclubwwu at hotmail.com by the March 15 deadline. The WWU Linguistics
Club looks forward to your abstracts, and please go to the website
