Description:

The Department of Linguistics at the University of British Columbia invites
applications for a Teaching Postdoctoral Fellowship in theoretical
linguistics. Successful candidates will teach, conduct research in their
field of expertise, and participate actively in the intellectual life of
the department. As well as its strengths in phonetics, phonology,
morphology, semantics, syntax, first language acquisition and field
linguistics, the UBC Department of Linguistics has a commitment to the
theoretically informed study and documentation of First Nations Languages.

In addition to their primary research area, it would be an advantage for
candidates to have a secondary specialization in one or more of the
following areas: field linguistics, languages of the Americas, West African
languages, language acquisition, laboratory phonology, and speech science.

Postdoctoral Teaching Fellows teach up to 4 three-credit courses during the
academic year (September to April inclusive). The appointments run for 12
months starting at a date to be negotiated between 1 July and 1 September
2005; the salary range is $35,000 to $40,000 (Canadian).  Applicants should
have a PhD in linguistics.

guaranteed consideration. Both appointments are subject to final budgetary

Details regarding the Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in Theoretical
Linguistics Applicants in theoretical linguistics should have a primary
specialization in any of the core areas of theoretical linguistics:
phonology, morphology, semantics or syntax. The Theoretical Linguistics
Fellow should be prepared to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate
level, including an advanced graduate course in his or her area of research.
