Description:

The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS) invites nominations and
applications for the position of Chair and Associate Professor or Professor in
the Department of Writing and Linguistics. Georgia Southern University, a member
institution of the University System of Georgia, is the largest and most
comprehensive center of higher education in the southern half of Georgia. A
residential university serving more than 16,000 students, Georgia Southern's
hallmark is a superior undergraduate experience emphasizing academic
distinction, excellent teaching, and student success. Founded in 1906, the
University offers 120 degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's and
doctoral levels through seven colleges. The 675-acre campus is located in
Statesboro, a community of approximately 30,000 residents, 50 miles northwest of
historic Savannah and 200 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Position Description: Reporting to the Dean of CLASS, the Chair's primary
responsibilities include administrative and leadership duties as well as
teaching two classes per academic year.  The Department offers a writing and
linguistics degree with emphases in creative writing, professional and technical
writing, linguistics, and writing and culture; teaching specialization is open
within those areas. The position is a 12-month appointment, and the salary is
competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
- Energetic, collaborative, visionary, and productive leadership style
- Experience in program development and resource and personnel management
- Terminal degree in field
- Recent undergraduate teaching experience
- Effective communication skills
- Commitment to student and faculty diversity and multiculturalism
- Scholarship and professional service commensurate to rank

Preferred Qualifications:
- Qualifications commensurate to appointment as Professor

position is filled.  The position starting date is July 1, 2006.  A complete

curriculum vitae; a statement of the candidate's teaching philosophy; a
statement of the candidate's administrative philosophy; and the names,
