Description:

San Francisco State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant
Professor position in Chinese with specialization in second language acquisition
and pedagogy, to begin Fall 2006. Doctorate in Chinese linguistics, second
language acquisition, or other appropriate field allied to Teaching Chinese as a
Second Language (TCSL), or all doctoral requirements completed by August 1,
2006. Native or near-native command of both Mandarin Chinese and English. 

Additional requirements: scholarship in applied linguistics and TCSL; experience
teaching Mandarin at the college level; ability to work collaboratively in a
collegial language program that will be increasingly involved in a newly
established Confucius Institute (the first in the Western U.S.). Expertise in
computer-assisted language learning a plus, as is experience teaching modern
Chinese literary/cultural materials. Duties include scholarly publication,
teaching undergraduate and M.A.-level courses (the latter especially with a
Mandarin language teacher training focus), curriculum and program development,
advising, and campus and community service. Application including cover letter,
CV, academic transcripts, three letters of reference, evidence of teaching
effectiveness, and representative scholarly work (30-page limit) must be
postmarked by December 1, 2005.  SFSU is an AA/EO Employer.
