The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

Description:

The Language and Linguistics Program at Queen's University, Kingston, Canada,
invites applications from outstanding scholars for a faculty appointment at the
rank of Assistant or Associate Professor under the Queen's National Scholars
(QNS) Program (http://www.queensu.ca/principal/specialp.html). This is a
university wide competition for new faculty positions. The main criterion of
interest to the selection committee is demonstrated academic excellence, in
Canada and abroad, regardless of other considerations. Preference will be given
to scholars in the early- or mid-career stages. Another objective is to provide
an opportunity to improve the proportion of women and members of designated
minorities on faculty.

We are seeking to strengthen and expand our course and program offerings in
general, and in Phonetics/Phonology in particular. Preference will be given to
applicants with teaching and research interests in Phonetics/Phonology and
another area of Linguistics.

The Language and Linguistics Program at Queen's administers three undergraduate
programs in Linguistics:
a) An interdisciplinary program in Language and Linguistics,
b) A medial concentration in Linguistics
c) A minor concentration in Linguistics

Applications are reviewed at three levels: First, the Language and Linguistics
Selection Committee, then the Queen's National Scholars committees of the
Faculty of Arts and Science and of the University. All qualified candidates are
encouraged to apply; however, Canadian citizens and Permanent Residents will be
given priority. Queen's is committed to employment equity and diversity in the
workplace and welcomes applications from women, visible minorities, aboriginal
people, persons with disabilities, and persons of any sexual orientation or
gender identity. The academic staff at Queen's University are governed by a
Collective Agreement between the Queen's University Faculty Association (QUFA)
and the university (http://www.queensu.ca/qufa).

Applications should include a curriculum vitae, a statement of research
interests, a summary of teaching experience, and at least three letters of
reference. The application deadline for Language and Linguistics has been
extended to November 1, 2005. Completed applications and all letters of
reference should be sent to the address below.
