Description:

Concordia University's Department of Classics, Modern Languages, and
Linguistics (CMLL) invites applications for one tenure-track position in
Linguistic Theory and Historical Linguistics. Applicants should have a PhD
in Linguistics with broad teaching and research expertise. A strength of
our program is its full integration of theoretical and historical
linguistics, and we expect the successful candidate to make contributions
in both domains. Teaching and research experience in several of the
following subjects is required: Introduction to Generative Linguistics,
Introduction to Historical Linguistics, Language and Mind, phonology,
syntax, acquisition, older Indo-European Languages, and  Field Methods /
Structure of Non-Indo-European languages.

An active research profile, including international conference
presentations and journal publications is required, as is demonstrated
ability to work as part of a research team. The successful candidate will
be expected to serve not only our dynamic undergraduate program, but also
our imminent graduate program in Theoretical and Historical Linguistics.
Department and University level administrative experience are also an
asset, as is competence in French, the official language of Quebec.

Applications may be submitted electronically and must consist of a cover
letter, a current curriculum vitae, samples of recent publications, samples
of teaching material (syllabi, handouts, etc), and a letter that includes a
statement of teaching philosophy and a statement of research achievements
and goals. Candidates must also provide the names of three referees from
whom letters may be solicited directly to Dr. Brad Nelson at the
application address listed below.

Subject to budgetary approval, we anticipate filling this position,
normally at the rank of Assistant Professor, for July 1, 2008. 
Appointments at a more senior level may also be considered.   Review of
applications will begin immediately and will continue until the positions
