Description:

The Knowledge Management Group lead by Prof. Dr. Rudi Studer at the
Institute for Applied Computer Science and Formal Description Methods
(AIFB) of the Technical University of Karlsruhe, Germany, has an immediate
opening for a Research Assistant (Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter, TV-L E13)
in the broad areas of Natural Language Processing, Ontology Learning and
Text Mining. 

The group has established itself as one of the top leading groups in the
areas of Semantic Web as well as Ontology Learning, Ontology-based Text
Mining and Ontology-based Natural Language Processing.  Our group offers a
stimulating and lively research environment as well as the opportunity to
carry out research in a highly international and interdisciplinary team. 

The position is suitable for pursuing PhD research in the above mentioned
areas. The opening is in the context of the DFG-funded research project
MULTIPLA on the topics of question answering, information retrieval,
ontology learning and large-scale information extraction. The aim of the
project is to develop new approaches for mining information in texts as
well as retrieval (e.g. through question answering) at a large scale.

The ideal candidate will have:
-  good knowledge of natural language processing / computational
linguistics / information extraction / text mining
-  experience with question answering (desired), 
-  a strong programming background, and
-  the ability to handle large amounts of data.

The position is initially available for two years and renewable for at
least another two.  Remuneration is according to German public service pay
scale TV-L E13, which roughly amounts to a salary of 35.000 Euro depending
on civil status and age.
