Description:

The Swiss Centre for Affective Sciences invites applications for a Postdoctoral
fellowship in the semantics of emotion terms.

The Swiss Centre for Affective Sciences is an interdisciplinary research
institute affiliated with the University of Geneva (for further information,
visit www.affective-sciences.org).  Its mandate is to study all aspects of human
emotion, including cultural and linguistic differences.  The Centre is carrying
out a "Grid Study" of emotion terms in the languages of the world.  This study
involves component profile measurement of the meaning of emotion terms in
different languages. It is being carried out in collaboration with the
International Consortium for Cross-cultural Research on Affect (ICCRA),
currently dealing with 10 languages in more than 15 countries.

As part of this research project, the postdoctoral fellow in the semantics of
emotion will be required to write a substantial survey article and produce an
annotated bibliography on the field of emotion terms in languages both living
and dead.  

The fellowship requires a doctorate in theoretical or lexical semantics,
anthropological linguistics, historical linguistics, philology or another
relevant discipline. 

The initial term of the appointment will be 6 months, and the salary paid will
be between 30,000 and 35,000 Swiss Francs, depending on qualifications and
experience.  The fellowship may be extended. The post will be based in Geneva,
and travel costs to and from Geneva can also be paid if required.
