Description:

Graduate Student Summer Interns (approx. 4) - ISD 

Time Needed:
Mid-late May through mid-August

Job Description:
BAE is serving as an evaluator of a large language program, which compares
machine performance to that of humans on the task of distilling information
from large sources of English and foreign text and audio. The evaluation
focuses on the machine's ability to identify the correct and complete
information in response to a user's query, with the aim being to extract as
much relevant information as possible while providing focused,
non-redundant responses.  

Graduate student summer interns are needed to participate in this exciting
program, serving as Annotators, an important role in the evaluation.  The
annotation task focuses on parsing information content from English query
responses (from humans and machines) into individual facts and determining
if they are relevant to the query.  This task also involves checking that
sources cited in the machine-provided responses actually support the
information provided.  BAE will fully train the Annotators on the
annotation and citation checking processes.

US citizens or permanent residents.

Required Skills:
Candidates must be enthusiastic, detail-oriented, pragmatic, and able to
work well both individually and in a collaborative, team environment.  The
core task will take place during the months of June and July, and wrap up
in early-mid August.  Candidates must be available to begin training in mid
to late-May.  Native English speakers only please.

Preferred Skills/Background:
Desired areas of study include but are not limited to: Linguistics,
International Relations, and Political Science.  Any prior annotation
experience would be a plus but is not required.
