Meeting Description

Annual SEALS meetings provide a forum for discussing topics related to the
analysis of Southeast Asian languages. 

Abstracts are invited for papers on any topic related to the analysis of
Southeast Asian languages. Abstracts should be written using a Unicode font and
should consist of two or three pages as follows:

(1) Paper title
(2) Sub-field (functional, discourse, sociolinguistics, phonology, formal
syntax, semantics, historical, language contact, etc.)
(3) Name(s) of author(s)
(4) Affiliation(s) of author(s)
(5) Email address for each author

Abstract body (maximum 400 words). Be as specific as space allows, with a
statement of topic, approach, and conclusions.
 
Page 3
 
References (if any).
 
An author may submit one single and one joint abstract.  In case of joint
authorship, one author should be designated as the contact person. Presentations
are allotted 20 minutes with 10 minutes for questions. All papers at SEALS are
delivered in English. Papers presented at the meeting will be considered for
publication in the Journal of the Southeast Asian Linguistics Society.
 
Abstracts should be submitted as email attachments in two formats, .PDF and
.DOC, to Prof. Dr. Nor Hashimah Jalaluddin at the following address:

shima at pkrisc.cc.ukm.my (replace "at" with "@")
 
Please indicate "Abstract for SEALS XVIII" in the email subject heading.
 
Notification of acceptance by 1 March 2008.

Russian-American Academic Center and Russian State University for the
Humanities, Moscow, Russia, are pleased to invite you to participate in the
International Academic-Applied Conference ''Language as a Tool of Understanding
and Misunderstanding: Russian-American Linguistic and Cultural Comparisons'' to
be held on February 26-27, 2008. Abstracts are invited for 20-minute
presentations on one the following topics:

Concepts in Russian and American Culture and their reverberation in the language

- conceptology and communication theory;
- the system of values according to linguistic data;
- core ideas of Russian and English/ American linguistic worldview;
- metaphorical images in Russian and American English, etc.

Applications including the author's name, degree, institutional affiliation,
home address, e-mail, phone number and the topic of the presentation are
expected before November 15, 2007. Abstracts should be submitted no later than
January 1, 2008. Applications and abstracts are to be sent electronically as an
attached file, Microsoft Word format, to Marina Kaul at kaulmar at mail.ru. We hope
to publish conference materials by the beginning of the conference.

Abstract requirements. Abstracts should be no more than 3 pages in length
(including data, references, etc.), in 12-point type, line spacing - 1.5. All
margins should be 2 cm. The title (14 pt), the author's name, country and
institution should be given in bold print in the middle of each line,
respectively. The working languages of the conference are English and Russian.

Further information concerning the organizational matters will follow on
receiving the papers, i.e. January.
