Abstract:

Depuis quelques années, on revient sans cesse au roman épistolaire en même
temps que ses textes majeurs sont revisités et remis à l'honneur. Sur la
base de La Nouvelle Héloïse de Rousseau, l'auteur dévoile la nature et les
lois de fonctionnement de cette forme complexe qu'est le roman épistolaire. 
La lettre ne se définit-elle matériellement pas davantage par son contenu
que par l'acte de communication qu'elle réalise ? Ne prend-elle pas sens et
réalité que dans la mesure où elle est écrite, reçue et lue par son
destinataire, réel ou accidentel?

Ce livre s'inscrit dans le champ de la Sémiostylistique telle qu'initiée et
développée depuis quelques années par Georges Molinié, à savoir une
stylistique résolument tournée du côté de la réception des oeuvres
littéraires. Elle a notamment pour enjeu principal la description de
l'organisation des strates énonciatives qui structurent le texte littéraire
à un moment donné et analyse le rapport entre cette organisation et la
littérarité. Le roman se présente ainsi sous la forme d'une narration
éclatée, à la fois polyphonique et polyscopique qui met en scène une
mosaïque de correspondants et de réseaux d'une extraordinaire complexité.
C'est ce qui crée chez le lecteur une émotion esthétique forte que ce livre
se propose également d'explorer.
