The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobs/jobnet.html. This page has been set
up so that people can report on the employment standards of various countries.

The Spanish Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia (MEC) has published a call
for applications for 3-year postdoctoral contracts through the Juan de la
Cierva program. Expected starting date is around the end of 2008. Only PhD
holders who have defended their PhD degree in the last three years counting

defend by the time the grants are awarded, are eligible. The additional
prerequisites for the candidates and the conditions of the contracts are
described in the following page of the MEC (in Spanish and English):

http://www.mec.es/ciencia/delacierva/

The applications and the applicants' research must be connected to one of
the following research projects (each project may endorse only one candidate):

- Long distance dependencies: Theoretical and descriptive approaches (PI:
Alex Alsina)

- Description of some recent literacy practices (electronic and vernacular
literacy). Linguistic analysis and didactic proposal. (PI: Daniel Cassany)

- Natural Language Ontology and the Semantic Representation of Abstract
Objects (PI: Louise McNally; NOTE: All individuals who applied for the
previous postdoctoral position announced for this project will
automatically be considered - there is no need to re-express interest.)

- Historical Dictionary of Translation in Spain (PI: Luis Pegenaute)

- Context, contact and level of competence the acquisition of English as a
foreign language: The development of oral and written abilities by advanced
level learners (PI: Carmen Pérez)
