Meeting Description:

Invited speakers:
Rajesh Bhatt - U. Massachusetts, Amherst
Ad Neeleman - University College, London
Henk van Riemsdijk - U. Tilburg
Hubert Truckenbrodt - ZAS, Berlin

The workshop puts issues of Case in a theoretical dialogue between morpho-syntax, prosodic phonology, and semantics, aiming, this way, to reach a novel perspective on some crucial issues which have been left unsolved in current formal models of language architecture. What needs to be done is integrated research at the interfaces which link the syntactic computational system to the semantic interpretation, on the one hand, and the phonological realization, on the other hand. The general questions we investigate are:

Do all Cases have the same status in the architecture of grammar?
Are oblique Cases more similar to prepositional phrases than structural Cases?
What is the underlying form of crosslinguistic variation with respect to Case syntax?

The preliminary program can be downloaded from the workshop's website. Attendance is free. If you plan to attend, please write an e-mail to the contact person.
