Description:

The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures of the University of
Pittsburgh seeks two full-time, non-tenure-stream assistant instructors for
the Chinese language program, for appointment beginning September 1, 2009,
pending budgetary approval. Successful candidates should possess native or
near-native proficiency in all skill areas of Chinese and English, hold at
least an M.A. degree in language pedagogy or related field, and have
teaching experience at the college level, linguistic knowledge of Chinese
language, and familiarity with current theories in second language
acquisition and language pedagogy. Duties include both recitation and
lecture. In addition to language teaching, the instructor will be asked to
work closely with the language coordinator and contribute to developing
overall effectiveness of the language program in the department.

Applicants should send a letter of application, CV, transcript from last
university attended, three letters of reference (at least one of them
should specifically address the candidate's training, experience, and
strength in Chinese language teaching), statement of language teaching
philosophy in Chinese and English to the Chinese Language Assistant
Instructor Search Committee at the address provided below. For more
