Description:

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen (The
Netherlands) offers a 2-year postdoctoral position for research into
individual differences in language processing. The aim of the project is to
identify trait-like aspects of language and speech that show substantial
variability within the normal adult population and high within-person
stability. Examples might include speech rate or the ability to learn new
sounds or words. This research will form the basis for studies into the
genetic bases of speech and language.

The successful candidate will have excellent knowledge of experimental
psychology and/or psycholinguistics and strong statistical skills. They
should have a keen interest in genetics and/or psychometrics and enjoy
interdisciplinary work. They must have a PhD in psychology, cognitive
science, linguistics or a related discipline.
 
The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (http://www.mpi.nl/) is an
institute of the German Max Planck Society and the only institution in the
world entirely devoted to psycholinguistics. Our mission is to undertake
basic research into the psychological and biological foundations of
language. The goal is to understand how our minds and brains process
language, how language interacts with other aspects of mind, and how we can
learn languages of quite different types. Nijmegen is a vibrant university
town situated two hours from Amsterdam, and has easy access to Belgium and
