Meeting Description:

The 7th International Conference of the North East Indian Linguistics Society (NEILS) will be held from February 2-4, 2012, in Guwahati, Assam, India, to be hosted by the Gauhati University Department of Linguistics. 
 
The fee schedule is estimated to be as follows, and includes lunch and tea/snacks on each day of the conference: 
 
Rs. 250: Local student
Rs. 1250: Local non-student/International student
Rs. 2500: International non-student
 
In conjunction with the conference, the Department of Linguistics will also be hosting a two-day Workshop series (at no charge), from January 31-February 2 at the Department itself. Workshops are primarily aimed at students, although non-students are also welcome to attend. If you are interested in presenting a Workshop at NEILS7, please contact mark.post at jcu.edu.au or s.morey at latrobe.edu.au to discuss your proposed theme/content. 

Call for Papers:

The primary focus of NEILS is description of the rich cultural-linguistic diversity that exists in North East India. Therefore, papers should have a primary descriptive component, preferably from a functional-typological or anthropological-linguistic perspective. Field reports are acceptable. Papers whose sole or primary focus is formal, theoretical and/or computational in nature are unlikely to be accepted for presentation.

To present a paper at NEILS7, please send an abstract of no more than 500 words (exclusive of data and references, if any) no later than September 15, 2011 via email to both mark.post at jcu.edu.au and s.morey at latrobe.edu.au. 

Please send both the original abstract (.docx, .doc, .odf, .rtf or .txt format) and a .pdf of the same. Please save the file using the following format: 

NEILS7_Abstract_Initial+Surname_BriefTitle.Ext 

For example, NEILS7_Abstract_PSingh_ManipuriPronouns.doc. Notification of acceptance will normally take place in early October, although early submissions/decisions for those needing to make extensive advance travel arrangements can be arranged.
